Selkirk Shores State Park - CANCELLED FOR 2020

June 12-14, 2020

Our 2020 camping event has been cancelled due to COVID-19. We hope to continue the tradition next year in 2021, perhaps even at the same park. Meanwhile, you can read about our plans.

This June we will be camping at Selkirk Shores State Park, on the eastern shore of Lake Ontario.

We have seven cabins rented for the weekend, that can accommodate from 4 to 6 women in each.

Cabin Amenities: Each cabin has a common room with a table and benches, and two single beds, a private room with a double bed, and another room with two beds, either bunk beds or two singles. There are 4 rooms in total, with a screened porch, electricity, cold running water, gas cook stove, flush toilet, fridge with freezer, and a fireplace. Showers are available in a separate building.

Central Cabin: New this year! The porch and common room of cabin 19 will be a shared space where:

  • we will post events that will be happening over the weekend.
  • we can gather to meet others, have lunch, visit.
  • we can store left-over pot-luck food to share.
  • you can stash your cooler if you arrive early.

Registration Fees: (per person in a shared cabin)

  • $65 double occupancy in common room
  • $75 double occupancy in semi-private room (2 bunks/twin beds or 1 double bed )
  • $90 single occupancy in a private room (double or twin bed)
  • $30 extra night before or after weekend (space is limited)
  • $20 for weekend meals and programming (No Lodging)

Note: All accommodations are first come, first served - sign up early! We will do our best to accommodate your choice of room, room mates, and cabin mates.

Parking:

  • Each cabin is allotted entry for 2 cars.
  • Parking fees for additional cars will be covered by your registration fee.

 Cabin Check-In/Out: Fri,  3 pm  / Sun,   11 am

You can arrive at the park as early as you want on Friday, and leave as late as you want on Sunday.

Activities: Enjoy hiking, kayaking, biking, nature, good food, and each other’s company! We might also have one or two workshops.

Meals: We’ll have dinner together each night, with the main entrees provided with your registration, and women interested in bringing side dishes will have an opportunity to sign-up when we get closer to the weekend. Breakfast and lunch are on your own.

About Selkirk Shores:  The park website says: In addition to spectacular sunsets over one of the Great Lakes, visitors to Selkirk Shores State Park can expect outstanding fishing and popular hiking and biking trails that lead to a lush mix of meadows and woodlands. Small boats can be launched from the Pine Grove site into the Salmon River.

Past Events

Chenango Valley State Park - 2019

Even more women joined us for our second Spring camping event (and the rain waited until Saturday night). We stayed at Chenango Valley State Park, an ice age wonder. Its two kettle lakes, Lily and Chenango, were created when the last glacier retreated and left behind huge chunks of buried ice which melted to form the lakes and bog. Birdwatchers may glimpse woodpeckers, nut hatches, warblers and thrushes along woodland trails and herons, ducks and kingfishers lakeside.

Five women from our Mid-Atlantic region, and one from Eastern MA joined 22 Finger Lakes women for a weekend full with hiking, kayaking, biking, golf, enjoying nature, good food, and each other’s company!

We supplied dinner for Friday night, and everyone pitched in for a pot-luck Saturday evening. Breakfast and lunch was on your own.

Gilbert Lake State Park - May 2018

Gilbert Lake State Park's lake and three ponds lie in wooded, hilly terrain in the foothills of the Catskills. In addition to cabins and campsites, the park has more than 12 miles of interconnecting trails for hikers.

Nineteen hardy women gathered for a wet, rainy weekend. We were able to get in some paddling and dinner Friday night before the rains started. Fun, wet hikes, and a pot-luck dinner in one of the pavilions kept us going on Saturday. Most headed home on Sunday.

Five members from the Albany, and Western and Eastern, MA regions  joined us here at the Finger Lakes.
