    Spring bike ride!

We haven't biked for a very long time, so we're starting out gently with an easy beginners ride on the Indian Head Rail Trail in Charles County, MD.

The paved trail runs 13 miles for an out-and-back total of 26 miles, but we'll probably bike a much shorter distance, say 10-15 miles. Because it's a rail trail, our ride will be mostly flat with just a gentle rise on the way out, which means a nice glide on the way back.

Here's a bit of what Rail-Trails Mid-Atlantic says about the Indian Head Rail Trail: "Cyclists and hikers can experience the surroundings of mature forests, natural wetlands, and occasional farmland as they pass through the Mattawoman Creek stream valley and some of southern Maryland's most scenic and undeveloped natural areas. . . . No matter your pace, the Indian Head Rail Trail is bound to delight."

We'll stop along the way for water and snack breaks and then eat our lunch at the end of the ride at a park near Mattawoman Creek.

Registration closes on Friday, March 31. In the event of rain this activity will be cancelled and all registrants will be notified.

This free activity is open to members and non-members of Women Outdoors. Non-members are welcome to attend two WO events as guests. On your third event, we'll ask you to join the Mid-Atlantic Region of Women Outdoors. You can also join right now by clicking on this Join Us link.

    Bring:

    • Helmet (required)
    • Spare tubes or repair kit
    • Bike pump
    • Water
    • Snacks for the trail
    • Brown bag lunch for afterwards

Please respect the trip leaders and other members and arrive on time - 10:30 a.m.

WO members and guests must agree to our Assumption of Risk Statement during the registration process.

The automatic confirmation email is the only email you will receive about this event. Be sure and save it or print it out.

RSVP and Cancellation – IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ

Be sure to copy down the address and trip leader contact information from the confirmation email to bring with you as there might not be good cell service at the event location.

Come with questions about my experience or other aspects of the show! We will touch on long-term survival tactics and strategies.

        About Jessie:

A former USAF S.E.R.E. Specialist (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape), Jessie Krebs has felt a strong connection with wild places since her childhood in Michigan.  After the military she pursued a BA in educational psychology, directed team building courses, and worked in wilderness therapy for over a decade.  She now runs a survival school based out of the Denver area and is enjoying teaching global survival skills to folks that actually want to learn them for a change!  A survivor of childhood abuse she finds the outdoors to be healing and empowering, and thus enjoys encouraging others to explore it safely and with confidence.

In the last few years she’s been drawn into various media roles as a reality TV personality (History’s “ALONE: season 9” and National Geographic’s “Mygrations”) and online educator (MasterClass).  She recently opened a school based in Colorado (OWLSSkills.com), which teaches the global survival and evasion techniques she learned and once taught in the military, to civilians with a focus on women and marginalized demographics.

        "Remotely Guided Forest Therapy |
        Shinrin Yoku Walk"

        COMING TO YOU ON ZOOM

A guided Forest Therapy walk is a celebration of nature and human connection helping us to relax, recharge, improve our moods and concentration, boost our immune system functioning, experience the felt experience of aliveness, slowing down, getting new insights, being naturally creative... and then bringing all of this with a big smile back home to our daily life.

This event is limited to 20 participants.

Note: Zoom Meeting Details will be sent with your confirmation email

        About June:

June has always had a desire to help others and a love of Nature. As a young child she climbed & sat in trees, hiked local trails, as an adult she backpacked in the Adirondacks Mountains. She has a passion for art as her father was an oil painter and she grew up drawing and painting. As a young adult she learned wheel throwing pottery and she assisted a local potter in the operations of the studio and teaching classes. She pursued a 42 year career in the medical field where she worked as a Registered/ Licensed Occupational Therapist (OTR/L) in the field of Rehabilitation & Hand Therapy. Here she found the medical field only focused on the physical body but lacked addressing the whole person particularly mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of the individual. She pursued additional extensive training in different mindfulness & meditation techniques as well as becoming a Reiki Master utilizing these techniques which she provided along with her Occupational Therapy treatment sessions. These additional techniques greatly helped patients better manage pain, anxiety and decrease their stress levels and improving their ability to focus. June retired after 42 years as an OTR/L but she wanted to continue to help her community and continues to offer services and teach methods to help manage one’s stress and health issues as well as offering reiki sessions and teaching reiki classes. June’s desire to continue helping others and her love of Nature led her to become a Certified Forest Therapy Guide through The Association Nature and Forest Therapy Guides (ANFT). June is very passionate about guiding others to experience Nature in a different way. She feels that by sharing her knowledge and guiding others in this forest bathing practice will give them the tools to manage their stress and discover the ability to enhance healing themselves though boosting their immune system as well as increasing relaxation and emotional contentment by partnering with Nature. This practice also deepens one’s relationship with ourselves and the world around us.
