Online Funtimes!

What is WOOF?

The pandemic doesn't have to cut us off from exercise and from the companionship, laughter, stories and insights of other women who love the outdoors.

In the coming months, we'll bring you presentations that will include online dance and exercise sessions, a book group devoted to books by and about women in the outdoors, workshops on open-water swimming and survival skills, and more, such as, potentially, crafting or games nights. Some presentations will be done by experts, while some will be done by fellow members, such as, perhaps, you? Please see the module below to see how you can take part.

Upcoming WOOF events

Note: Members will be sent announcements for these events, but you can register directly from the links below. After you register, you will be sent a confirmation email with Zoom Meeting details. Be sure to add NoReply@womenoutdoors.org and WildApricot.org to your contacts or whitelist to ensure that automated announcement, registration, and confirmation emails don't get blocked.

How Can I Contribute?

We welcome your help. Do you want to present, hold a casual meeting, or suggest an event you'd like to have somebody else lead? Please feel free to write to us at WOOF@womenoutdoors.org, and we'll be sure to respond.

When it comes to leading an event or giving a presentation yourself, don't worry if you're not familiar with how to do it or don't have a Zoom account: you don't have to do this on your own. The board has an unlimited-time account that we can use, and we're more than happy to be on the call with you in whatever fashion you need. We can make you a cohost so you have the power to mute/unmute participants, for example, set up breakout rooms for larger gatherings, or we can do these things for you.

1. If you need some ideas on what you could do on Zoom, here are some we’d love your help with:

    • One or more crafty members who'd like to run a crafting night
    • One or more fun-wrangling members who'd like to run a games night
    • One or more members who'd like to conduct an event where we share photos and stories from our travels

2. If you have an expert in mind for hosting a presentation, we'd be happy to field your suggestions and work with you to make it happen. Talk to your Regional Contact(s) about whether she/they would like to join in with the national organization to compensate somebody by chipping in half of the $80/hour fee we've approved: there are regional funds available if your RC(s) agree/s with the presentation idea.

Once again, to contact us, the email is WOOF@womenoutdoors.org.

Let us know what type of meeting you're thinking about and what days/times you'd be interested in holding it. We'll have a presenter form available soon in order to vet and recompense professionals.

We look forward to your thoughts and/or your pitching in.

Women Outdoors Board Brings You WOOF!

Questions & Answers

Q: What's the cost?

A: Zero. WOOF events will be available free to all Women Outdoors paying members. It's our way to say Thank You for sticking with us. You deserve something from us during these rough times, and we're thrilled to bring this to you.

Q: Will WOOF end after the pandemic?

A: Nope. At least, we hope not. It's up to all of us to make it happen, and that means we all have to pitch in with leading WOOF events and/or suggesting presenters, but there's no reason why this has to end with the pandemic: it just requires finding members who are willing to hold events or presenters who can share their skills with us.

Q: I want to lead an event, but I'm not very technical. Can you help?

Q: What do I need to participate, either as a presenter or a participant?

A: If you're reading this, you already have the technology you need. Just like with any Zoom call, it's best to have a computer, but mobile devices can do in a pinch. Good lighting on your face is preferable for both presenters and participants, as is a quiet background.

Q: I have an idea for a WOOF event. Whom should I contact?

A: Send an email to WOOF@womenoutdoors.org and let us know what type of meeting you're thinking about and what days/times you'd be interested in holding it. We'll have a presenter form available soon in order to vet and recompense professionals.

Q: Is there a particular day/time I can look forward to having a WOOF event to go to?

A: We're working on the schedule with presenters now but hope to hold something on a regular basis, once a week, so you can plan your week around it. We're thinking Sunday early evenings, but please do send feedback regarding good times/days of the week for you. Think early evenings, since we don't want to overlap with whatever outdoor daytime activities are occurring.

Q: What are these regional funds of which you speak?

A: Whenever a member joins Women Outdoors, part of her fee is deposited in a fund kept on behalf of her region. That money is meant to be spent on YOU: on fun, skills, outings, etc. Regional contacts are always looking for ways to spend it, so don’t be shy about asking how much is available or telling your RC(s) what you’d like to see that money go toward. If you want to know how much your region has, you can ask your Regional Contact. RCs, if you don't know how much money is in your regional fund, please ask us at Treasurer@womenoutdoors.org
