Mattawoman Creek Kayaking

Join us for a gentle paddle on Mattawoman Creek in Charles County, Maryland.  Upstream we'll find some of the finest tidal freshwater marshes in the region. Bring your binoculars to spot abundant wildlife including eagles, egrets, ospreys, herons, geese and ducks.

Kayaks and canoes are available to rent from Up the Creek Rentals in Indian Head.  A single kayak rents for $20/2 hours and a tandem rents for $25/2 hours.  A 2-person canoe rents for $15/hour and a 3-person canoe rents for $21/hour.  Up the Creek Rentals requires a $15 non-refundable deposit. This is the busy season, so call Up the Creek Rentals by Wednesday, June 2 to reserve your boat at 301-743-3733 (or try 301-743-3506).  All women must wear a PFD, which is included in the rental.

We'll meet at 9:30 a.m. to allow plenty of time for everyone to rent their kayaks and then we'll review basic strokes and safety procedures.  If you're bringing your own boat, we plan to launch at 10:00 a.m.

We'll snack while we're on the water, but bring a picnic lunch for afterward.  For the truly energetic, Indian Head Rail Trail is 5 blocks from Up the Creek Rentals in case you want to bring your bike and go for a ride afterward.

This free event is open to members and non-members of Women Outdoors Mid-Atlantic.  Non-members are invited to join us on two events before we ask you to join Women Outdoors.
