Our Maryland Heights hike will be a two-fer: beautiful fall colors and rich Civil War history. This hike features some steep climbs and rocky terrain, but we'll be rewarded with a spectacular overlook of Harpers Ferry and the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers. Signage along the trail will describe the Civil War ruins.
Maryland Heights is a challenging ~5.5-mile hike, so come prepared with your hiking boots and hiking poles if you have them.
This free event is open to members and non-members of Women Outdoors Mid-Atlantic. Non-members are invited to join us on two events to see what you think. The third time's a charm - we'll ask you to join Women Outdoors at that point. You can also join now by clicking on this
Join Us link.
There is
very limited parking at the trail head, so we're going to meet at the Visitors Center at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park instead. Harpers Ferry NHP charges a $10/per vehicle entrance fee.
Special note: A group of Mid-Atlantic members will be spending the weekend at the Demory-Wortman House at Blue Ridge Center in Purcellville, VA, about 10 minutes away from Harpers Ferry. After the hike, everyone is invited back to the house to relax and hang out. If you'd like to stay for happy hour and dinner, please bring a potluck dish to share.
Registration closes on Thursday, November 6. Please include a telephone number in case of last minute changes.
Thanks.
