Located on 40 acres of open land with marsh and pond, mixed hardwoods and red pine plantation, Blue Cut Nature Center offers a pleasant 1.5 mile loop through a pine forest and past a pond and wetland. "Blue Cut" derives from the bluish shale drumlin that was cut through to build a railroad parallel to this nature preserve.

There are actually three self-guided trails. The wildlife trail shows various habitats including a wetland, woods, field, and mowed-grass strips. The forestry trail goes through the pine plantation, and the time study trail shows that everything changes. There are restroom facilities.

This free event is open to members and non-members of Women Outdoors. Non-members are invited to join us on two events to see what you think. The third time's a charm - we'll ask you to join Women Outdoors at that point. You can join now by clicking on Join Us.

Bring: Dress/shoes appropriate for the weather, hat, water. Optional: hiking sticks, camera, a friend!

Directions: Heading east from Newark on Route 31, Blue Cut is on the south side of the road, after Fink Road. Or use 7210 Route 31 West, Lyons, N.Y. 14489.
