The West Hill Preserve is one of six sites owned by The Nature Conservancy in the western Finger Lakes area. We will hike for about two hours, choosing from the marked and unmarked trails found in the preserve. We will see various levels of ecological succession since farming ceased at different times across this parcel. Homesteading artifacts fascinate me, and there is at least one old foundation and assorted abandoned farm equipment hiding in the old fields if you keep a look out.
The trails in this section aren’t steep, but there is some hill climbing, and there may be some soggy ground in the low areas. Dress for the weather and bring water and a snack if you wish. RSVP for directions.
