CANCELLED DUE TO EXTREME COLD. STAY TUNED FOR A RESCHEDULED DATE.
This 2 mile loop is a moderately challenging hike/snowshoe on the grounds of a former Girl Scout camp on the shore of Lake Ontario. Though it is possible to stay on the flat park roads, the more interesting path is through the woods by the abandoned camp structures and to some beautiful overlooks from bluffs above Lake Ontario. Adventurous hikers can add the “Hill and Dale” trail (.5 miles r.t.) to the Maxwell Bay lookout, but be prepared for some short/steep ups and downs! The hike should take about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on how fast we move and how long we spend taking in the sights. This appears to be a family/dog friendly park. It is a state park but is managed by the town of Sodus. There are some primitive latrines at the park entrance but they are not maintained regularly and are not stocked.
Bring: Water, snowshoes, and binoculars and cameras if desired. Hiking poles are definitely helpful!
