Beebe Lake on the Cornell University campus has fascinating ice formations in winter, and the trails are usually accessible for walking. We’ll walk along a rim trail looking down at the lake, then across a bridge with good views of the gorge and waterfall, then around the lake, with optional excursions farther into the Cornell Plantations if group interest warrants and ground conditions permit. This trail has some stairs which might be icy, I will check and update trail conditions in the days before the walk. Backup plan will be to cross campus bridges with clear sidewalks and view the ice shapes of several frozen waterfalls. If you’re interested in brunch before walking, let me know when you RSVP and we can discuss cuisine options.
We'll meet at the Parking lot east of Helen Newman gym, Cradit Farm Road, Ithaca
Directions: From Route 366 near the Cornell vet hospital, turn downhill at the traffic light on Caldwell Drive. Go straight through the first stop sign, across a one-lane bridge (the road’s name changes to Forest Home Drive), and at the second stop sign, go straight onto Pleasant Grove Road. At the top of the hill take the first left onto Cradit Farm Road. Take the first right into the parking lot, which is free on weekends. Let’s meet at the end closest to the road. Coordinates at parking lot entrance: 42.453646, -76.473900
