Location: The Potomac Group Campground provides a primitive group camping experience intended for groups of 8 to 40 people. This site is excellent for family events and youth group activities. The site is only accessible by hiking approximately 200 yards from the parking area. Facilities include a large pavilion with picnic tables, cooking grills, camping areas, and vault toilets. Reservations are required at this primitive tent site just south of the Potomac Ponds in Schuyler County and this site may be reserved by only one group at a time. Our Women Outdoors group has reserved it for June 3 - June 5.
The Potomac Group Campground is close to the center of the sprawling Finger Lakes National Forest between Cayuga and Seneca Lakes in southwestern New York..
Cost: $0 – The cost to rent the site is minimal. We are paying for this out of our region funds, so no cost to you other than providing yourself with camping equipment, food, etc.
Facilities: In essence, this primitive campground is a simple field that contains a pavilion with four picnic tables, a large grill, a campfire circle and two vault toilets. The Potomac Group Campground does not have water, electricity, or lighting. Drinking water is not available at the campground or picnic shelter, nor is trash collection (bring it in- bring it out).
This is not a drive-up location; site access requires hiking 200 yards from the parking area on Potomac Road. Park in a very small parking area just before the gate on the access road to the campground, unload your gear there to carry it into the camp.
Important: You will need to supply your own food and water.
Note: if you don't have camping equipment contact us and we'll help you with loaners
Info: The Finger Lakes National Forest is New York's only National Forest. It has more than 16,000 acres of land and 30 miles of multi-use paths that traverse gorges, ravines, pastures and woodlands, including the popular 12-mile Interloken Trail. A variety of trails exist in the area, including the Potomac Trail, which extends about 5 miles round-trip. It is a moderately difficult trail that travels through a variety of forest types and follows the edges of quite a few ponds in the area. The Potomac Trail connects with the Interloken Trail and the campground.
Nearby: A short drive west from the campground leads to a number of wineries on the Seneca Lake Wine Trail and a few brew pubs. Taughannock Falls State Park is due east.
Other Recreation: Fishing is allowed in the ponds, in accordance with state fishing regulations.

Need to know:
Don't move firewood: To limit the spread of invasive tree-killing pests, firewood from outside the area is not permitted. Some states have quarantines and may confiscate your firewood. Please help protect our forests from invasive species by obtaining your firewood at or near your camping destination and burning it on-site. Visit dontmovefirewood.org for more information.
