Hike Great Bear Recreation Area

Registration is closed

Location: The Great Bear property is located between Fulton and Phoenix New York on Route 57. Parking and the entrance to Great Bear are at Route 57 and Great Bear Road. Meet at 1:00 pm at the entrance.

This is a great place for a fall hike.  Please bring water, hiking poles (optional), appropriate clothing, snack and anything else you might like.  The length of the hike all depends on which trail we chose and how much time we spend observing nature.  Pets are welcomed.

Great Bear Recreation Area is located off County Route 57 between Phoenix and Fulton, NY.  This unique area is owned by the City of Fulton and the Town of Volney.  There are numerous miles of well maintained trails used by hikers, mountain bikers as well as cross country skiers.

You'll find a lot more information on this great place from the Great Bear Website http://www.friendsofgreatbear.org/ .  If you're unsure of what to hike, we'd suggest the Yellow Loop.  This loop follows yellow plastic trail markers on a pleasant 2.3 mile (we gps'd it at 2.7 miles) hike through the property.  This hike takes you to an old lock along the Oswego River.  You'll hike briefly along the old towpath and to the perfect picnic spot with a bench on the banks of the river

We’ll see you in the outdoors,

Anna

Note: this is the same event originally scheduled for Oct 22 that was cancelled due to non-stop rains.

This free event is open to members and non-members of Women Outdoors. Non-members are invited to join us on two events to see what you think. The third time's a charm - we'll ask you to join Women Outdoors at that point. You can join now by clicking on Join Us.
