You may have been to Letchworth State Park and seen the work of the Genesee River in the beautiful canyons and waterfalls it has created, but did you know that it has been at work in downtown Rochester as well? Weather permitting, we will take a look at various points along the Genesee Gorge to the river’s mouth at Lake Ontario (yes, it does flow from south to north!).
We will meet at the Maplewood YMCA, 25 Driving Park Ave, Rochester, NY 14613, at 11:00 AM and park in their lot. We will take the short walk to view the Middle and Lower Falls, and then carpool to other stops such as Turning Point Park and Charlotte Beach. We will retrieve our cars before ending our tour at the High Falls and the Genesee Brew House.
Those who wish to stay can take a guided tour of the brewery, visit the beer museum, have a beer tasting (4 beers for $2) or eat in the restaurant overlooking the falls.
Wear warm clothing. It may be cooler at the lake than in the city.
Bring your camera, water, walking sticks and clamps for the bottom of your boots if it is icy.
