Join Women Outdoors Mid-Atlantic on Sunday, June 4 at 1:00 p.m. for kayaking at Pohick Bay near Lorton, VA.
We are starting later than usual because high tide is not until 5:44 p.m. We'll paddle up the main channel to start and come down through the marsh. We'll kayak from 1:30 - 4:30 and be back on the road by 5 p.m.
There are two different put-ins – one if you have your own kayak (to the left past the docks at the end of the large parking lot) and another if you’re renting a kayak (straight ahead and slightly right down a small hill to the rental facility).
If you rent, you must arrive at 1:00 to get a boat and paddle to the left to meet the rest of the group. If you have your own boat, be in the water at 1:30. If you have questions, email Storm, our trip leader, at stormny@aol.com.
The park entrance fee is $7 (free for NOVA residents) and the cost to rent a kayak is $12/hour ($11 for NOVA residents). If you bring your own kayak, the launch fee is $7 ($5 for NOVA residents).
Everyone must wear a PFD, not just strap it on your boat. All participants must also sign a Women Outdoors waiver before getting on the water.
Storm will be at the rental shack until 1:15 p.m. to get you signed in. After that, you're on your own. You should get there early as the rentals cannot be reserved.
This event is open to members and non-members of Women Outdoors Mid-Atlantic. Non-members are invited to join us on two events to see what you think. The third time's a charm - we'll ask you to join Women Outdoors at that point. You can also join now by clicking on this Join Us link.
Registration is limited to 15 women and closes on Thursday, June 1 or whenever we reach 15. Please note on your registration if you will bring your own boat or if you will be renting a kayak or canoe.
Please include a telephone number in case we need to let you know about last minute changes or if we need to cancel because of the weather.
