Summer is here! Let’s go kayaking!!

Lakeview Pond is in the town of Ellisburg off Route 3 on Pierrepont Place.  Coming from the north it is 9 miles south of the Village of Henderson.  From the south- take Rte 81 N to Exit 37 and turn left on Harwood Drive for Sandy Creek. Proceed straight for 3 miles as Harwood Dr. becomes Lake St and then becomes Co Rte 15.  Turn right to stay on Co Rte 15 and in 1.1 miles turn right on Rte 3E and follow 9.5 miles to Pierrepont Pl. Turn left on unpaved road for .3 mi to parking area.

This is a one way kayaking/canoe trip so there will be the need to shuttle the cars to the take out area.  We will meet in the parking area at the end of Pierrepont Place Road, unload our kayaks and equipment.  Someone stays with the kayaks while the others drive their cars to the take out area, then we pile in one car or two (depending on number attending) and return to where we will put in. The take out area is approximately 6 miles south of Pierrepont Place Road off of Montario Point Rd. We will kayak south across the pond to a connecting creek which will take us to the mouth of Lake Ontario where we will pull up on the beach and eat lunch, walk the beach, maybe swim or not then get back in the water and continue southeast on Sandy Creek for a while until we see a stream opening on our right.  We will take that stream among tall reed grasses and come out on north Colwell Pond.  After crossing that pond we will connect with South Colwell Pond where we will cross and take out there.  All this while Lake Ontario lies just on our right on the other side of the dunes.  My best guess is that from put in to take out is about 6-6.5 miles.  This will be a leisurely paddle so count on a few hours in the outdoors.
