Time to Forest Bathe!!!- Explore Smith Woods trails - rare and unique 32 acre old growth forest (less than 1% of land in NYS is old growth forest) - never logged and never used for agriculture. Some of these trees pre-date European settlement. Admission: free

Where: The woods occupy a space bordered by the Grove Cemetery on Falls Rd aka Rte 148 to the north,  Cemetery Rd to the west, NY Rt 96 to the south, and the Shur Save grocery to the east at the edge of the village of Trumansburg. N 42° 32.267 W 076° 38.821 across from the fairgrounds. We will meet in the SW corner of the parking lot of the Shur Save at 2085 NY 96 aka Trumansburg Rd nearest to the Sunoco sign that fronts Rte 96 and enter the southern trailhead into the woods.  We will follow the .5 mile edge loop trail with minimal elevation change and decide as a group if we want to explore additional loop trails to the north and east.

(Smith Woods is about 2 miles/5 minutes from Taughannock Falls State Park and also about 6 miles/11 minutes from Cayuga Nature Center)

Bring water, proper footwear, hat, sunscreen and insect protection as this will be a walk in the woods.

For even more fun, some members are camping overnight in the park, Friday or Saturday or both. Camping reservations are on your own.

Make your reservations via www.reserveamerica.com
(search for "Tau" and this park will pop up first in the list, no need to spell the whole name!)

Camping options: as of June 16, there were a total of 12 (out of 84) sites still available for both Friday July 7 and Saturday July 8, 2017.  Any available tent sites numbered 64 - 72 would allow for our group to camp near to or adjacent to each other.

Basic Camping Rules

1 Sites allow for no more than 6 people per site and 2 vehicles. A valid camping permit must be visible on all vehicles.

2 Check-in is at 3pm and check-out is by 11am. Occupants must register when they arrive

3 Each site allows for either two (2) tents OR one (1) unit of hard wheeled camping equipment + one (1) tent.

This free event is open to members and non-members of Women Outdoors. Non-members are invited to join us on two events to see what you think. The third time's a charm - we'll ask you to join Women Outdoors at that point. You can join now by clicking on Join Us.
