We will travel this historic Erie Canal Path from Palmyra east to Newark and return for total distance of 18.2 miles.  The path is paved in part with some parts smooth stone dust. We will stop as needed to stretch and also to have a snack at the midway point prior to return leg of ride.

The 9.1 mile ride to Newark is picturesque with several other creeks like “Garnargua,” intersecting the canal and a wider area, more like a lake, before Newark called “The Wide Waters.”  We expect to travel at an easy leisurely pace taking about an hour to travel to Newark.

There may be birds to see as we ride:  Herons, Ducks, Wood Peckers, … What we may miss on the way east we may see on our way back to the start point.

What to bring:  bike (in good working order), helmet, water, snack/lunch. Dress in light layers as weather dictates.

DIRECTIONS to the Start in Palmyra:

From the junction of Routes 21 and 31 in Palmyra travel west on Route 31 (aka W Main ST). Travel west to 555 W Main St turn right to entrance of the Pal-Mac Aqueduct Park.

(Signage also for Canal Lock 29,Town of Macedon).  After entering park- look for our Women Outdoors group in the parking lot.  There are rest room facilities and picnic pavilions at this park.

This free event is open to members and non-members of Women Outdoors. Non-members are invited to join us on two events to see what you think. The third time's a charm - we'll ask you to join Women Outdoors at that point. You can join now by clicking on Join Us.
