This year for the first time, Women Outdoors will be sponsoring a canoe team in the Run of the Charles 24-mile canoe relay race on Saturday April 30. The race starts at 10 am in Needham, MA, winds through Dedham, Newton, Wellesley, and Waltham before finishing in Boston/Allston. Teams of ten use one canoe and swap paddlers every 5 miles, portaging around 6 dams along the way. Twenty Women Outdoors members from Boston, Western Mass, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Maine will be competing in the race with two canoes. The women's division for this race has had only one entry for the last several years, so we are expecting to place in the top three!

The team is still looking for additional paddlers to serve as alternates if needed, and for a photographer. Contact the organizer Deb Weisenstein (dkweis@aer.com) to sign up.
