NOTE DATE CHANGE DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER!!

This is a great place for a fall hike. The trail goes through woods and along the Oswego River. Not too steep overall but a bit of a scramble in a few places. The length of the hike depends on which trail we choose and how much time we spend observing nature. A possible loop would be to take the outer trail all the way to Whiskey Island and return via Lower Turtle Trail (Tow Path) ~ 3 miles. Another popular trail is the Yellow Loop, 2.3 miles, with a choice of shortcuts or extensions to make it shorter or longer. The group can decide as we go. Pets are welcome.

Check out their website, they have a great map and description of the place. http://www.friendsofgreatbear.org

Bring: water, hiking poles (optional), appropriate clothing, snack and anything else you might like.

Location: Great Bear Recreation Area, corner of Route 57 and Great Bear Road, between Phoenix and Fulton (NW of Syracuse) 43.321130,-76.414840

How to find us: A small parking area is off County Route 57, across the junction of Great Bear Road. A gate allows the public to enter the property. There are no signs off the road to mark the parking area.
