Bird Watching on the C&O Canal

  • 04 May 2019
  • 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
  • Potomac, MD

Registration

  • Enjoy a gentle pace along the C&O Canal Towpath with a few meanderings into the woods on this birding walk.

This birding walk is designed for beginners and the more experienced. The leader will give some preliminary info for beginners at start of walk such as how to use binoculars, field guides, and basic identification clues.

We’ll be looking for migratory arrivals: warblers, tanagers and orioles, as well as interesting resident birds such as ospreys, hawks, eagles and woodpeckers. We will be on the towpath, briefly in the forest, and the area near Great Falls.

We may go for lunch after the walk at a restaurant about a 15-minute drive from the park.

NOTE: The entrance fee to C&O National Historical Park at Great Falls Tavern is $15/per car, good for day of purchase plus 6 days. You can also enter with an NPS Annual Pass or Golden Eagle Pass or buy a $30 Great Falls annual pass, which gives access to Great Falls Park, Virginia, and the Great Falls area of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park on the Maryland side of the Potomac River.

Cancelled in the event of rain or high winds.

This event is open to members and non-members of Women Outdoors. Non-members are welcome to join us on two events to see what you think. On your third event, we'll ask you join Women Outdoors, or you can join now by clicking on this Join Us link.
