** UPDATE **

We’ve just discovered that the footbridge trail in Letchworth is closed. However, don’t despair! We will still be hiking on the East side of the park, but we’ll be on the Big Ben trail instead. This hike will be a little bit longer than the Footbridge. Entire length of trail will be between 2-3 miles and will take us about 1-2 hours.

Original Post:

Join Leslie and Jeanie for a hike the east side of Letchworth State Park. We'll hike trail 6A, the Footbridge rail. Entire length of trail will only be between 1-2 miles and will take us about 1-2 hours. The footbridge trail connects the east side with the west side of the gorge. The east side is a little wilder, less trafficked with beautiful views. Be prepared for slippery conditions. Moderate exertion. Walking sticks/poles will come in very handy. Sturdy shoes/boots a must.

Meet at McDonald's in Mt. Morris and we'll carpool to Parade Grounds entrance. There is a fee to enter the park on the west side. I have an Empire pass and can take 4 people in my car. You are welcome to meet us at the Parade Grounds entrance if you don't want to carpool. There is no fee to enter the park at the Parade Grounds entrance. After the hike we can drive the short distance down the road to the cabin area on the east side to check it out for possible weekend getaway some time for Women Outdoors.

McDonald's is on route 408 in village of Mt. Morris (13 E State St, Mt Morris, NY 14510). Best way to access it is 390 south to Mt. Morris exit 7. At exit head south on 408 into village of Mt. Morris. McDonald's is about 1 mile down on right. It's a 20-minute ride from McDonald's to park entrance. Let's meet at McDonald's at 11 AM. Hike will start promptly at 11:30 AM. Bring a lunch.

There are no facilities at the hike location. There are bathrooms at the camping area and on the west side of the park.

This event is open to members and non-members of Women Outdoors. Non-members are invited to join us on two events to see what you think. The third time's a charm - we'll ask you to join Women Outdoors at that point. You can join now! Click on Join Us.

*** RSVP and Cancellations – IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ ***

Please respect the trip leader and update your RSVP if you sign-up but then are unable to attend. Please also RSVP early, especially if there are only a few signed up. Events may be cancelled due to lack of attendance, as well as changes in weather or other circumstances. So be sure to RSVP and share your cell phone number when asked, as events may have changed and you will not receive notification. If you must cancel at the last minute, call or text the event host/trip leader, as not all leaders have access to the Meetup app on their phones (let her know who it is who is calling/texting). Be sure to copy down the address, directions, and trip leader contact information to bring with you as there might not be good cell service at the event location.
