**HIKE DESCRIPTION:

Date: Saturday, August 24, 2019

Start time: 6:00 am

Meet at:  If you will be camping at Draper's Acres, please meet at the campground, otherwise please meet at the trail head across from Chapel Pond on Route 73 south past Keene.

Mileage: 8.5 miles up and back

Hike time: 8 to 8.5 hours depending on our pace

This is the shortest trail but also the steepest and rocky with 3000 feet of elevation over 3 miles. The rewards to this rail are the countless views along the way for us to admire and catch our breath.

We will hike to the top of Giant first, relax a bit, eat, take in the scenery then head back down for about .1 of a mile before veering off to Rocky Peak Ridge. It’s about 1.2 miles to the top of Rocky Peak. Again we will rest and admire the views then head back to the way we came to the Ridge Trail where we will begin the descend.

Things to bring: good comfortable hiking shoes, hiking poles, plenty of water, food,

Along with this day event Mary has offered to lead a less strenuous hike in the Lake Placid area. Location and time yet to be determined. Stay tuned.

**OPTIONAL CAMPING - Fri 3 pm - Sun 1 pm**

Now for the camping part….because of the distance to the ADK from our area, some of us are camping for the weekend at Draper’s Acres, 4582 Cascade Rd (Route 73), Lake Placid, NY 12946 phone 518-523-9322. I have reserved 2 cabins, which are already occupied. It is up to each individual to make their own reservations. See attached map of the campground.

Friday check in is at 3 pm and Sunday check out is by 11 am. For Friday night I plan on just hang around the camp, maybe grill something and get ready for the big hike. On Saturday evening after returning from the hike I like to go to Lisa G’s, 6125 Sentinel Rd, Lake Placid for dinner.

For Sunday, after check out, maybe do a short hike somewhere around Lake Placid before heading home. Location yet to be determined.
