Join Stacy for a stroll at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology
May is the height of spring migration, especially noted for brightly colored warblers. I am not a birding expert and will not be able to identify most of the birds, but we can have fun watching and listening.
Trails are flat and mostly woodchipped, though there may be muddy spots. This will be a slow walk with lots of stopping and standing when we spot something to look at.
The visitor center opens at 10am and offers a small museum and gift shop as well as restrooms.
Birds are most active very early in the morning, so let me know if you are interested in starting earlier - I'll plan to be in the woods by 7:30, and return in time to meet the main group at 9:00.
Picnics are not permitted in the wildlife sanctuary, but we can go to a nearby restaurant after our walk if we feel so inclined.
Bring:
- Binoculars if you have them.
- Birding apps such as Merlin on your phone, or bird books might be handy.
- A Mask - may be needed depending on current conditions.
- Tick protection.
- Clothing and gear to keep you comfortable in that day's weather, including rain gear, sun hat, etc.
- Water.
Address Cornell Lab of Ornithology, 159 Sapsucker Woods Rd., Ithaca.
