Kayaking in Memory of Storm Freeman

Storm Freeman, a courageous and adventurous woman and longtime member of Women Outdoors Mid-Atlantic, loved kayaking, birding and all things nature. Storm left us March 22, 2022, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer; she was 72.

Although Storm was a slight woman, only reaching 5 ft. 3 in., she would carry her long kayak on her head. No one had to help her load or unload her kayak, but she was happy to help others. Up until six months before her death, she would even kayak alone when she felt well enough.

Whether you knew Storm or not, join us as we honor her memory by going kayaking at Mason Neck, one of her favorite spots in Northern Virginia. More specific information will be in the automatic email you'll receive after registering. Join us for lunch first and then we'll launch.

Kayaks, single and tandem, are available to rent for $15/hour; canoes are available to rent for $20/hour.

If bringing your own boat, be sure and also bring your own PFD and safety whistle. There is a $3 launch fee if you bring your own boat.

PFDs are required for all paddlers and must be worn properly (not strapped on the deck of your kayak) throughout the entire trip.

UPDATE: REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN TO EVERYONE. REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE WHEN WE REACH 10 PARTICIPANTS OR FRIDAY, JUNE 16 AT MIDNIGHT, WHICHEVER COMES FIRST.

This special event will initially be open only to members of Women Outdoors. If we have spaces available as the date gets closer, we will open up registration to non-members. If you are a non-member and would like to be put on the waiting list, please send an email to Midatlantic@womenoutdoors.org.
