Join us for a hike at Mason Neck as we remember our friend Storm Freeman
Two of our Mid-Atlantic members are leading an overlapping event linked with the Storm Freeman kayaking activity at Mason Neck State Park on Sunday, June 18th.
We'll meet that morning at the Mason Neck Visitors Center and hike about 3 miles along some nature trails through woodlands with beautiful water views. To increase our chances of seeing birds and waterfowl, no doggies on this hike.
At noon we'll meet up with the arriving kayakers. Hikers and kayakers will have lunch together before the boaters launch at 1:00 p.m. At the picnic we'll share our thoughts about Storm and her love of nature.
SPECIAL NOTE: While the kayaking event is open only to members of Women Outdoors, this hike at Mason Neck State Park is open to members and non-members of Women Outdoors. You do not need to have known Storm to join us for the hike and picnic.
Non-members are welcome to attend two WO events as guests. On your third event, we'll ask you to join the Mid-Atlantic Region of Women Outdoors. You can also join right now by clicking on this Join Us link.
ATTENTION KAYAKERS: If you are registered for kayaking and want to join us for this hike beforehand, please also register for this event.
Registration for the hike closes on Friday, June 16.
Bring:
- $10 cash for park entry fee. Pro tip: If you are a member of REI, bring a recent sales receipt for free entry into the park.
- Water
- Snacks for the trail
- Picnic lunch
- Hat, hiking shoes
- Sun block
- Insect repellent
- Binoculars (optional)
WO members and guests must agree to the Women Outdoors Assumption of Risk statement during the registration process.
Please respect the trip leaders and other members and arrive on time - 10:00 a.m.

Be sure to copy down the address and trip leader contact information from the confirmation email to bring with you as there might not be good cell service at the event location.
If you register but then are unable to attend, please cancel your registration. Events may be cancelled due to lack of attendance, as well as changes in weather or other circumstances.
If you must cancel at the last minute, call or text the event host/trip leader (see your confirmation email for contact details) and let her know who it is who is calling/texting.
