Oktoberfest Hike on Maryland's Eastern Shore
We're heading to Maryland's beautiful Eastern Shore for our own take on Oktoberfest - a hike and hops.
First, the hike: We'll hike about 4 miles through Tuckahoe State Park and Adkins Arboretum. Tuckahoe Creek, named for the arrow arum, a sturdy wetland plant also called "tuckahoe," runs through the heart of this park. The wooded wetlands have defined this land for centuries and offer a glimpse back in time. The wetlands are home to a variety of songbirds and amphibians.
Our hike will be mostly flat along Tuckahoe Creek and around the outskirts of Adkins Arboretum, a preserve of 400 acres of woodlands, wetlands, and meadows.
Doggies are welcome on this hike but must be kept on leash at all times. Pet owners must clean up after their pet.
FYI - Adkins Arboretum is hosting Fairyfest the same day as our hike, so if we're lucky we may spot some little fairies running around the woods. [Fairyfest is "a magical afternoon of activities, crafts, imaginative play, music, dance and more!" Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 on the day of the event.]
Next, the hops: On our way back home, we'll stop by Ten Eyck Brewing Company for lunch and libations. Assuming it's warm enough, we'll eat in the beer garden; if not, we'll sit in the taproom.
Ten Eyck means "at the oak" and is owned by a team of women veterans, first responders, and ruggers. Leashed, well-behaved dogs are allowed in the beer garden and taproom. From the Ten Eyck website: "Can I bring my spouse? Of course! Well-behaved spouses are allowed off-leash in the taproom and beer garden."
This free activity is open to members and non-members of Women Outdoors. Non-members are welcome to attend two WO events as guests. On your third event, we'll ask you to join the Mid-Atlantic Region of Women Outdoors. You can also join right now by clicking on this Join Us link.

If you're interested, Tuckahoe State Park offers tent and RV camping (one electric loop and one non-electric loop) with a central bathhouse in each loop as well as some camper cabins with electricity, heat and a/c. Camping is not an official Women Outdoors event. To make a reservation, go to parkreservations.maryland.gov.
IMPORTANT - The automatic confirmation email is the only email you will receive about this event. It will have the specific meeting location and the names and contact information for the trip leaders. Be sure and save it or print it out in case there is not good cell service at the event location.

If you register but then are unable to attend, please cancel your registration. Events may be cancelled due to lack of attendance, as well as changes in weather or other circumstances.
If you must cancel at the last minute, call or text the event host/trip leader (see your confirmation email for contact details) and let her know who it is who is calling/texting.
