Join us for an orienteering themed hike to challenge our woods navigation skills. Our group will join in with the Central New York Orienteering Club for their orienteering event. We will meet and then walk separately from the other participants, at our own pace.
The Central New York Orienteering Club will have markers hanging in the woods for a short orienteering course where we can start, and a second medium-length course that we can use if we want to keep going. I will show how to use the special-purpose map and compass, and then we can walk as far as we want. There may be some trail runners using the same courses as a timed race; we will let them pass by while we enjoy a pleasant walk with an unusually detailed map and the challenge of finding marked locations.
The club charges $8 per map if you want your own map to keep, or we can share my map. If we'd like to eat afterwards, there are several restaurants nearby.
Bring: Compass if you have one, boots or shoes for muddy trails, warm or waterproof clothing as the weather dictates, water bottle, snack if desired.
This free event is open to members and non-members of Women Outdoors. Non-members are invited to join us on two events to see what you think. The third time's a charm - we'll ask you to join Women Outdoors at that point. You can join now by clicking on Join Us.
