Our spring wildflower hikes have become a beloved tradition with Women Outdoors Mid-Atlantic. This year we're heading to Ball's Bluff Regional Park in Leesburg.

According to the book, Finding Wildflowers in the Washington-Baltimore Area, Ball's Bluff is now a favorite spot for botanists and birders in early spring. Bring your binoculars and field guides for this hike!

Wildflowers include trillium, sessile bellwort, wild ginger, blue cohosh, Dutchman's breeches, squirrel corn, Virginia bluebells, trout-lily, rue-anemone, birdfoot violets, bluets and rattlesnake-weed.

We'll also be on the lookout for pileated woodpeckers, Carolina wrens, chickadees, tufted titmice, brown creepers, and migrating warblers and vireos.

We'll walk through the gentle hilly woods and along the Potomac River for about 3 or 4 miles. Somewhere along the way we'll find a spot for a picnic lunch. Sorry, no doggies on this hike.

This free event is open to members and non-members of Women Outdoors Mid-Atlantic. Non-members are invited to join us on two events for free. The third time's the charm - that's when we ask you to join Women Outdoors. You can also join now by clicking on this Join Us link.

Registration closes Thursday, April 21. Please include a telephone number in case we need to let you know about last minute changes or if we need to cancel because of the weather.

Thanks.
