Summer is nearly here so please join me on my first kayaking trip.

South Sandy Creek Fishing Area is right off State Route 3 in the Town of Ellisburg.  Route 3 runs east and west and is part of the Seaway Trail.    From Syracuse take 81 north and take exit 37 to Sandy Creek follow the road until you see the sign to Route 3.  Turn right on Route 3 and head east.  You will cross into Jefferson County, continue east on Route 3.  Some landmarks to look for once you have crossed into Jefferson County...County Route will be on your right, shortly after Montario Point will be on your left, then Nash Road on your right, the entrance to the parking area will be the next left once you go over the creek.

Coordinates: 43.71,-76.182222  43°42'36.0"N+76°10'56.0"W

We will put in and take out from there.  Both types of water craft are allowed, so there will be some who will have small motor craft, mostly for fishing.  So if you like to fish and you have a license, by all means bring your fishing pole.  We will kayak downstream to the mouth of Lake Ontario where we will pull up on the beach and eat lunch, walk the beach, maybe swim or not then head back.  My best guess is that from put in to mouth of Lake is about 1.5 to 2 miles.  This will be a leisurely paddle so count on a few hours on the outdoors.

MUST THINGS TO BRING: kayak, paddle, lifejacket, water shoes.

Other things to bring: water/fluids, food, bug spray, hat, change of clothes, towel, etc, etc.

This free event is open to members and non-members of Women Outdoors. Non-members are invited to join us on two events to see what you think. The third time's a charm - we'll ask you to join Women Outdoors at that point. You can join now by clicking on Join Us.
