More Details coming soon. Here's a summary:
Cascade Mt & maybe Porter Mt (an additional .7 mi) - early start 6 am 2.4 miles- one way, elevation gain from trail head is 1,960 ft. There is some scrambling on rocks with minimal handholds. It’s not long but it is steep. You need to carry at least 1 liter of water- more if it’s hot and food/ snacks to cover exertion for approx. 4 hours depending on the pace. You must have fitness ability to hike up and down steep inclines for at least 4 hours with a couple of rests built in.
Trailhead: Leave Lake Placid on Rte 73, follow Rte 73 toward Keene. The Trailhead for Cascade will be on the right, before you reach Cascade Lakes.
Cascade is a 4.8 mile RT. The trail is fairly moderate, aside from a couple short steeper pitches. At 1.8 miles is a ledge with the first views followed by the trail going right to Porter Mt. at 2.1 miles. The final 0.2 miles or so is open rock scrambling. The side trip to Porter Mt. adds 1.4 miles to the hike and allows you to enjoy additional views and a less crowded summit.
