*** This event will be rescheduled. Too few women were able to attend on this date. ***
Learn to use a baseplate orienteering compass: how to find a compass bearing, how to walk in the woods without getting turned around. This is tricky to do but with practice it starts to make sense.
Bring whatever you need to be comfortable for a slow-paced walk in the woods. I'll bring enough compasses and maps for everyone. If you already have your own compass, do bring it along, but no need to buy one just for this event.
If you're interested in a compass clinic but this date, time or place doesn't work for you, please post a comment. This is a topic I'm happy to repeat or reschedule.
I’m usually a rain-or-shine gal, but this time will probably cancel if it’s going to pour or if only one or two women sign up.
Directions: 671 Pratts Falls Rd, Manlius, NY 13104. From US Route 20 in Pompey, turn left on Henneberry Road, then take the first right onto Pratts Falls Road. The park entrance will be on the left, with a fairly noticeable sign. There may be a small fee to park, like $3. At the Y in the park road, bear right to get to the main parking lot.
Meet at the picnic tables under the trees next to the main parking lot
RSVP and Cancellations – IMPORTANT – PLEASE READ
Please respect the trip leader and update your RSVP if you sign-up but then are unable to attend. Please also RSVP early, especially if there are only a few signed up. Events may be cancelled due to lack of attendance, as well as changes in weather or other circumstances. So be sure to RSVP and share your cell phone number when asked, as events may have changed and you will not receive notification. If you must cancel at the last minute, call or text the event host/trip leader, as not all leaders have access to the Meetup app on their phones (let her know who it is who is calling/texting). Contact information is included in your registration confirmation. Be sure to copy down the address, directions, and trip leader contact information to bring with you as there might not be good cell service at the event location.
This free event is open to members and non-members of Women Outdoors. Non-members are invited to join us on two events to see what you think. The third time's a charm - we'll ask you to join Women Outdoors at that point. You can join now by clicking on Join Us.
