We'll bike out-and-back along the southernmost part of the Mount Vernon Trail. Our 16-mile ride will take us past Belle Haven Marina, through Dyke Marsh Wildlife Preserve and along lovely stretches of the Potomac on our way to Mt. Vernon before we turn around and head back.
The trail is mostly flat with some gentle hills especially as we get closer to Mt. Vernon. But that means it's mostly downhill for the return ride. This is a perfect summer bike ride because most of the trail is shaded.
We'll have a picnic lunch at the end of the ride at Belle Haven Park overlooking the Potomac.
Riders must have a bike helmet and wear closed-toe shoes.
