Double the Birding at Mason Neck

Double the birding, double the fun!

We're going to check out two locations at Mason Neck in Northern Virginia in search of winter waterfowl and other winged creatures.

First, we'll meet at Elizabeth Hartwell Mason Neck National Wildlife Refuge for an out-and-back walk (about 1.5 miles total) along a paved trail to an overlook in hopes of seeing bald eagles, tundra swans and other wintering waterfowl.

Next, we'll  head over to the Visitor Center at Mason Neck State Park and hike about two miles through woodlands with excellent views of the Potomac River. We'll look for more waterfowl as well as any other little birdies that catch our eyes along the trail.

There is a $10 parking fee (honor system) at Mason Neck State Park.

To increase our chances of seeing lots of birds, no doggies on this hike.

Registration closes on Thursday, Jan. 26 or if we reach 20 participants, whichever comes first. This activity will be cancelled In the event of rain or extreme cold; all registrants will be notified.

Be sure to copy down the address and trip leader contact information from the confirmation email to bring with you as there might not be good cell service at the event location.

If you register but then are unable to attend, please cancel your registration. Events may be cancelled due to lack of attendance, as well as changes in weather or other circumstances. 

If you must cancel at the last minute, call or text the event host/trip leader (see your confirmation email for contact details) and let her know who it is who is calling/texting.
