Kayaking at Patuxent River Park - Jackson's Landing

This has been one of Women Outdoors Mid-Atlantic's favorite natural areas for paddling. We generally see osprey, perhaps eagles, butterflies and various wetlands vegetation depending on the time of year. Patuxent River Park / Jug Bay is a gem to explore.

Level of difficulty: Moderately difficult. Warm temperatures can affect one’s endurance.

Parking and Restrooms: Both are available at the Visitor's Center (flush) and at the launch site (porta-potty).

No boat? No problem! You’ll be able to reserve a canoe or kayak at Jackson’s Landing (in advance). Rates are for the day rather than the hour.

Online reservations cannot be made within 24 hours of the rental date and Saturdays are popular, so reserve EARLY.

The Visitors Center opens at 9 a.m.  All boat renters must check in at the Visitors Center upon arrival to sign a waiver.

Walk-up rentals are available if boats are available. If you choose to walk-up and rent a kayak, there is no guarantee one will be available. There is no entrance fee to Patuxent River Park.

If bringing your own boat, be sure and also bring your own PFD and safety whistle. There is no launch fee if you bring your own boat.  Renters will be provided a personal flotation device and a paddle.

PFDs are required for all paddlers and must be worn properly (not strapped on the deck of your kayak) throughout the entire trip.

This activity is open to members and non-members of Women Outdoors. Non-members are welcome to attend two WO events as guests. On your third event, we'll ask you to join the Mid-Atlantic Region of Women Outdoors. You can also join right now by clicking on this Join Us link.
