A Sweet Ramble at Sweet Run
This is Virginia's newest state park and is still under development; however, there are eleven miles of trails open to the public. We will walk a combination of easy to moderate trails for a total of three to five miles along streams, through mature forest, meadows and on mountain-side terrain. One trail we will definitely include is the Farmstead Loop Trail that has the ruins of several old homes and barns along it.
There is an Interpretive building and a Visitors Center in a restored farmhouse built in 1840 at the main entrance. There are heated bathrooms attached to the interpretive center and a porta-john in the parking area. Parking is somewhat limited, and the park is about a 1-1/2-hour drive from the DC metro area, so we encourage you to carpool if possible. There is a $10/car entrance fee; another good reason to carpool. Please work out any carpools via our Groups.io Mid-Atlantic page (available to members only). Non-members can call me about possible carpool arrangements.
There is a picnic pavilion along the trail. As long as it is not in use (not likely in February), we can stop there to eat a trail lunch. There are no restrooms at the pavilion, though it's only about a 1/4 of a mile from the parking area/bathrooms.
Doggies welcome on this hike but must be leashed.

Historic Harper's Ferry is about a 20-minute drive away for those who wish could go there for lunch or sightseeing after our hike.
