Let's go camping!
Ah, fall is in the air. The leaves are starting to change. A cool breeze greets you in the morning. Sweater weather is upon us. Time to go camping!
We're heading to Greenbrier State Park in beautiful Western Maryland for a weekend camping trip. From the park's website: "Located in the Appalachian Mountains, Greenbrier State Park is a multi-use park providing many kinds of recreation. The 42-acre man-made freshwater lake and white sandy beach draw many visitors who enjoy swimming, canoeing, boating and fishing. A visitor center is open year-round and features information on the South Mountain Recreation Area and a small gift shop."
Folks can arrive anytime after 3:00 p.m. Friday to set up camp and hike around the park before dinner. To keep things simple, plan on bringing all of your own food for the weekend and any cooking gear you'll need. We'll eat together at one of the campsites and have a campfire both evenings.
On Saturday morning we'll hike to Annapolis Rock and back, about 5 miles total. This is a moderately strenuous hike with some elevation gain at the beginning before leveling off. The trail is extremely rocky so good hiking shoes or boots and hiking poles are recommended.
Not interested in camping? You're also welcome to come just for Saturday's hike. Click here to go to the registration page for the Annapolis Rock hike. Conversely, you can also skip the hike and just relax at the campsite.
Everyone must make their own campsite reservations through the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. But before you do, register here with Women Outdoors and you will receive an automatic email with the exact location of where we will be camping so you can select a nearby campsite.
The camping cost is $22/night + $6.25/fee for a total of $51.25. Each campsite can accommodate two tents and two vehicles if you want to double up and split the cost.
This event is for Women Outdoors members only. You can join the Mid-Atlantic Region of Women Outdoors by clicking on this Join Us link.
