Women's weekend paddle trip one day on the Connecticut River, flat/moving water with a gentle flow. And a second day on a nearby lake.

We will be staying Friday and Saturday nights at a large b&b near Ascutney VT. This trip is limited to 10 Women Outdoors members in good standing. We will share meals and cooking/clean up duties.

Total cost will be determined based on number of people, lodging cost around $250 plus food expenses. A deposit of $150, payable to the trip leader after you are accepted, will hold your space. More details to follow by email.

For paddling, you will need drinking water, immersible shoes, quick-dry clothing, and a jacket, windbreaker or raingear depending on the weather. PFDs (lifejackets) must be worn at all times while on the water, and paddlers are expected to stay with the group. Bring your own boat, paddle, and PFD, or rent from trip leader for $60 for the 2-day trip. This trip is for kayaks and canoes only; no paddleboards, blow-up boats, whitewater kayaks or any type of motorized craft.

You must be able to paddle long distances/long hours, but of course with stops along the way for stretching and lunch. The Connecticut River trip is 10 miles in one day. The trip may be adjusted according to weather.

We will be vetting people to make sure this trip is a good fit for each person. When you register you will be asked:

    1. What boat you're planning to paddle, its length and make/model. Or if you need to rent a boat, and if you want a recreational ( large cockpit) wider kayak, or a skinnier touring kayak

    2. How many years have you been paddling? Do you feel confident in your paddling skills on flatwater? Can you paddle against a strong headwind?

    3. How many times have you paddled in the last 2 years. What was your longest daily distance?

    4. Do you have any medical conditions that may affect you on this trip? Do you have allergies that may require medication (e.g., epipen)? Are you recovering from any injuries that may limit your mobility or activity level?

Breathe in some crisp, clean air and warm your soul with some blazing autumn colors with a car camping trip to upstate Vermont!

We’ll be traveling to a remote campground in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont where you can slow down, lose yourself in the beauty of nature and recharge your energy. We will be camping right next to a pond where you can hear loons sing and bullfrog’s chirp and grind! Other wildlife that abounds here are moose, bears, coyotes and many types of birds.

    Activities include:

    ·       kayaking/SUPing

    ·       swimming (if it’s warm enough!)

    ·       hiking

    ·       bird watching

    ·       mountain biking

There will be planned group activities but attendees can also carve out some solo time for reading, journaling, meditating or doing whatever brings happiness. At night we’ll wind down with good conversation and relaxation by a roaring fire!

Please be prepared to bring a tent, sleeping bag, dishes, utensils, camping chair, food, snacks and cooler for your food, etc.

The campground is located on a pond and has a small beach. It will probably be too cold to swim but you never know! The campground also rents boats so if you don’t have your own you rent once you get there. The campground has flush toilets, hot and cold water and coin operated hot showers. They also have their own hiking trails, part of which goes along the Pond. So we can explore these and check out the autumn colors!!

You will need to make your own reservation for this trip.  You can either reserve out a tent site or a cabin.  Another option is to stay on a tent site that someone else has already reserved. The trip leaders will give you information about the campground after you sign up. Also, a complete packing list will be sent to all participants closer to the date of the trip.

PLEASE NOTE: Overnight Women Outdoors trips are open only to dues-paying members of the Women Outdoors organization.

LASTLY: By clicking the "Yes" option on the RSVP link you are agreeing to the Assumption of Risk as stated here:  https://www.womenoutdoors.org/Risk.

      FAQs:

Q: I am entering the lottery with my friend/partner/spouse/etc. How does this work?

A: We will put your names (together) into the lottery ,TWICE, to

      provide you with equal probability.

Please note for those attending with a partner: We can count both of

your names as one, and put you into the lottery twice.

Q: I only want to come if I can have a single room. What if the only

      opening is a double?

A: We will fill the single versus double rooms as they are selected

by the lottery process. If there are no single rooms available when

you are picked then you will be placed on the waiting list for a

      single.

Q: I am fine with being in a double. Do I have to pre-select a

      roommate?

A: No, we will assign you a roommate.

Q: How quickly does the waitlist open up?

A: It depends on when people cancel. Sometimes it is right before a

refund deadline. Often there are cancellations at the last minute due

to illness or life circumstances, so being flexible can work out in the

      end.
